Scraps of Color Sistah Retreat #11

Where does the time go? It seems with each passing birthday, time is flying by way too fast. I still remember when I was a child; Easter, Christmas and summer vacation seemed like eternity to come. Now as an adult I feel if a blink to long I going to miss the entire year.

I began scrapbooking eight years and I have been going to Georgia to scrapbook with Scraps of Color Sistahs since October 2006. The Sistah Retreats take place twice a year, in May and October. The Sistah Retreat are two of the highlights of the year, because we spend 48 hours, and over the past couple of years 72 hours together; laughing, playing, dancing, eating, listening to music, watching movies, telling stories, sleep deprived, and oh yea - creating . We do all of this naturally without any enhancements from drugs or alcohol (although some of the women need their caffeine fix), but when you have 14 phenomenal women together in one room you don’t need anything artificial.

In five years I have had to miss two retreats. The first one was retreat #2, because Tiare (yes once again I’m putting you on blast and not letting it go) had originally picked one date and then several months later, after I had booked a work conference based on her original date, she moved it and I was unable to come. The second retreat I missed was #6, which is all on me, but then I do have a good excuse. After years of going to college, I finally graduated on May 16, 2009, which happened to be the same weekend of the retreat and my birthday. Because of the May date the retreat usually fall on or around my birthday, and I have celebrated many of birthday’s with my sistah’s at the retreat. However, mommy dearest, as well as other family members were not going to allow me to go to the retreat and miss my graduation. I originally had mixed feeling about not going to the retreat, but I have to admit I had the BEST graduation party ever.

I now live in Georgia, so I no longer have to incur the additional cost of flying to each sistah retreat and limited to the amount of things I can bring. Now I can bring my entire scrapbook room (I’m not going to), and I will now chauffer Camille and Angie around, since they have always chauffeured me in the past.

The fun begins today at 6:00 p.m. when Camille arrives and continues until Monday, at 8:00 p.m., when I drop her and Angie back off at the airport. I’m so looking forward to the weekend let the fun begin Scraps of Color Sistah Retreat #11. Our sistah Aysha has to miss this retreat, but we look forward to seeing her at Retreat #12.

Here’s a photo from Sistah Retreat #8 the year Tiare began expanding the retreat from Sunday to Monday. Our flights weren’t until late in the evening, so Tiare was stuck with us until then. With time on our hand and a much needed trip to Archivers, we headed out to her house in Woodstock and did an impromptu photo session. We had a ball…
