Defining Scrapbooking…

Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of photographs, printed media, and memorabilia contained in decorated albums, or scrapbooks.
I love scrapbooking, but this really is a vague definition when describing the hobby as a whole. When I first started scrapbooking in 2004 I only created 12x12 layouts. Fast forward and I now create 8x8 and 6x6 layouts, cards, minibooks, and various altered projects. Although I love creating all these different types of project; I would have to say my true passion is creating mini books and altered projects.

There are times when I’m just not feeling creative or in the mood to make a layout, and when these days occur I make minibooks and altered projects. Making minibooks and altered projects without pictures allows me to create freely; without having to take into consideration does the paper match the photos, which photos to use, which event to scrapbook, etc. Instead the projects are done and whatever pictures I finally decide to use, I make them work.

My NYC & Me ladies always make me feel good when I complete a project because of their lovely compliments. They always say how hard it is to create without pictures, but I must be rubbing off on them, because more of them have started making the blank minibooks.

Not only is making minibooks and altered projects a passion, its slowly becoming an obsession I need to work on. I love making these minibooks and altered projects so much, I must have about 30 completed projects and enough material to make 50 more. This past summer I started working on my obsession, and began giving away projects as gift to friends who I have spent time. I have only given away six thus far, but it’s a work in progress.

Here is an altered acrylic layout I created of my lovely niece Vanessa on her 22nd birthday:
